I never perform surgeries on the basis of reports or images. I need to clinically examine the patient before deciding whether the patient requires surgery, if so, then what,when and of what magnitude. Investigations are there to support me, guide me, help me to be precise, but surgery is a surgeon’s decision. But then, my experience in my practice and especially the COVID times have given me a reason to consult online.

These are three most bothersome yet neglected symptoms in people which I have come across in my practice. If there is a pain elsewhere, people rush to a doctor, but if the anal canal has been hurting while passing stool daily for ages, they ignore. It is often ignored to a point where it becomes unbearable.
The majority of the females don’t consult even within their family and don’t come to surgeons for the dilemma of getting examined. But it’s important to know that:
- After a certain age rectal bleeding is NOT normal.
- ‘Something coming out’ of the anal canal is NOT normal.
- Having pain while or after passing stool is NOT normal.

No telephonic or video consultation can be superior to physically examining the patient. But yes,distant patients, immobile, chronically or critically ill patients can be offered help and hence this endeavour.
