About Me
Practising Surgery since 2008.
I believe surgical practice needs to be ethical. Patients should earn the surgery, it should not be imposed upon and in case of grave emergencies, they should be explained about the risks and expected outcome along with possible complications with conviction and compassion. If the patients realise that surgery is required and they will be cured or have a better quality and productive life as an outcome, half the battle is won.
I try to understand not only the ailment but also the patient’s overall condition, the risks involved and benefits expected, the family, the logistics involved and only then do I proceed with the treatment. I believe one should be open to discussions, be transparent and always agree for a second opinion at any stage of the treatment. I have particular interest in emergency and trauma surgeries, complicated and high risk patients and treating those who have been refused from other centres considering the magnitude of risk involved. I have been enriched with a vast experience of treating surgical issues of paralysed and spinal cord injured patients in my practice. I am indebted to my mentors and I have a legacy to carry forward, I don’t deviate from the teachings of my masters.

It's a pleasure to write something for Dr Sarkar. I'm glad to be known by him, he is a gem of a person. I was suffering with a surgical problem for years and was getting treatment for the same elsewhere. I was given a local injection by the doctor of a well known hospital. Thereafter, I deteriorated badly with profuse bleeding. I was bleeding a lot and that was the time I met Dr Sarkar for the very first time. He was as quick as blink of an eye, straight forward in his words, confident in his decision, as polite as someone can be, humble, sensitive to the situation, aggressive yet calm. I was managed symptomatically in the acute phase and operated at a later date after stabilization. Surgery went smoothly and I was discharged the very next day. When multiple doctors told us this situation can arise again, it's been almost five years down the line I am free from it and living life happily. I'm very grateful to Dr Sarkar for his overwhelming nature. He is sensible, calm, and honest to his work and patients. He has the quality to make someone's day just by talking. To say something about him, I'm short of words…

I am Ranjiv Jain, an engineer by profession. My wife met with a road accident in August 2015 due to which she suffered from C-5, C-6 spinal injury, which resulted in quadriplegia i.e. 100% disability. During the course of hospitalization at the initial stage, she suffered from Recto-Vaginal Fistula. The team of doctors - Gynaecologists tried to fix the issue by surgery, but it did not succeed. Then, I came into contact with a young doctor, Dr. Debojyoti Sarkar, who suggested we go for a colostomy. Actually, the same was suggested by Dr Sarkar at the initial stage, but somehow other doctors did not agree to go for that. He explained each and every pros and cons of colostomy. Initially, we thought that we would continue the colostomy for 3 months or so and later on we'll go for reversal. We went to the hospital for a reversal, but suddenly our mind was changed at the last moment after we thought of its advantages. So, we finally decided to continue with the colostomy. The basic idea behind colostomy was that it helps the patient from the stigma of wearing diapers permanently, which may result in bed sores due to non-movement. I also got information from the internet that patients in foreign countries prefer colostomy and perform their day to day activities with colostomy in a much easier way. During my hospital stay for approximately 6 months, I came into contact with a few patients who even lost their lives due to these bed sores only. Dr.Sarkar operated for colostomy in such an excellent manner that a temporary surgery done to survive 3-4 months is still successful even after a lapse of nearly 5.5 years. Dr.Sarkar thinks about the patient in a very humble and humanitarian way. He is not from that bunch of modern day so-called professionals who run after money only. Dr.Sarkar is still following the basic principle of serving humanity. In my various meetings with Dr.Sarkar, I even found him helping the poor and needy patients by extending his help in different manners. He is a thorough gentleman, a true professional and above all, a great human being. We wish him every success in his future life and assignments.

First of all I want to thank you for my successful surgery under a life threatening condition where it was a do or die situation for me. You examined me and said that it was a strangulated hernia and requires immediate surgery. I remember, my both grandsons were only with me in your OPD and it was a tough decision. You waited for my surgery till evening and also I was diagnosed COVID POSITIVE and was very scared to undergo such a major surgery at my age, I was 82 years. Thank you so much, Dr Debojyoti, for successfully operating upon me, taking all risks and giving me a new life. Me and my family want to thank you for taking up the challenge and saving my life. I also thank you for your attitude of putting the condition of the patient ahead of everything else as priority. If every doctor is as generous as you the world will be full of happiness, enjoyment and smiles. My recovery has been nothing short of inspiring considering my age and condition and also I was covid positive during the surgery. I found more healing in your comforting words than medicines. Thank you for all the care and concern you have shown to me and my family.

A few months back I was advised certain antibiotics for a supposed boil on my back which appeared reddish and a bit soft. I was asked to take the course for two cycles, and then realized that it was more than just a boil. I opined I needed to consult a Surgeon, so I consulted Dr D Sarkar who after examining said it was an infected cyst which needed surgical removal. He conducted the surgery well and based on his advice I took the necessary precautions post-surgical removal. I observed that he was very forthright in his advice and keeping my age and other medical issues in mind, allayed my fears and gave me the confidence to go ahead with the treatment. Thanks Doc!

I got successful treatment (a minor surgery) of a cystic lesion from Dr. Debjyoti Sarkar last year. I am satisfied and I don't have any "after surgery issue". What impressed me most about Dr. Sarkar is his humble nature & caring approach towards patients besides his medical/surgical expertise.

Great experience as a first timer. I barely waited to be helped when I checked in. The staff and Dr. Debojyoti Sarkar were all very friendly and helpful. I especially loved how Dr. Sarkar really took his time to explain my conditions with me as well as my treatment options. He ensured I had a smooth surgery. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

I(Danish Ansari) have been going to Doctor Debojyoti Sarkar since 2014 and I'm so grateful for his services. I was suffering from the problem of recurrent partial Testis Torsion. As my condition was worsening due to unbearable pain, after that doctor did my orchiopexy surgery. Also after my surgery when I returned home, there was no communication breakdown; he patiently answered all my queries about my condition until I was fully recovered. For me, he is a ray of light in darkness.

Hi my name is Jaskaran and I was going through an acute Fissure problem last year. It was very painful for me and during this problem I met doctor Debojyoti Sarkar, one of the greatest doctors I have seen yet. I explained everything about my problem during my first visit and also the observation which was made by the previous doctor. He reviewed properly, took proper time and explained to me that this problem is increasing now and will not be able to be cured by medicine, we have to do a surgery. I was satisfied with the observation from Debojyoti sir because I was not getting relief from the medicine/ method which was prescribed by the previous doctor. During my first visit to sir, it was decided that I have to stay in the hospital for 2 days for my surgery. I was too nervous because it was the first surgery in my life and guess what, it took only 30 mins for the entire surgery including anaesthesia and positioning and only 10 min operating time. I was saying to them ‘Ho geya itna jaldi wo bhi, wah kya baat hai’. After surgery sir always visits to check how it is now and if I need to ask anything from sir, I called him and he explained everything to me. I want to thank you sir and their staff for my treatment and removing pain from my body. God bless you sir and your staff. Take care

I am a staff nurse in a reputed hospital in Delhi where I have been working with Sir for a few years. I have seen him taking care of his patients and treating them with so much care. One fine day after my busy schedule I had severe abdominal pain and I collapsed in the emergency room. The doctors there attended immediately and I was found to be in a state of hemorrhagic shock due to massive internal bleeding. I was diagnosed with a RUPTURED ECTOPIC PREGNANCY and the only way to save my life was an emergency surgery. Sir performed my surgery and I remember, before I was anaesthetised fully, he came to me and said not to worry. I was on a ventilator for two days lying unconscious after surgery and when I finally opened my eyes in the ICU two days later, I found sir with me that time also. I had a smooth recovery and Sir is no less than family now. All my good wishes.

Sir I really want to thank you for all that you have done for me. I was refused surgery from almost every hospital in Kashmir as I am a quadriplegic patient and once, even though I was taken inside the OT in a hospital in Srinagar, surgery was cancelled as they said we cannot proceed due to high risk which really took me into a deep depression. But fortunately I met you and you really encouraged me in just one meeting which really gave me a lot of confidence and as well took my worries away about whether I will survive the surgery or not. Honestly speaking I have never seen a doctor like you since my four years of injury. You took me smoothly out of my worst phase. I really appreciate you for your efficiency, polite gesture towards your patients And again thank you sir.

I met Dr Sarkar in 2017. I was under his treatment and was scheduled to undergo leg surgery due to varicose veins. He appeared to be a person attending to his patients with utmost gentility, talking to them as if he knew them for years, making them feel that he was only worried about their discomfort and putting them at ease with his agile sense of humour. When my turn came he was just the same with me like he was with others and I knew from that moment I had come to the right place. Dr.Sarkar made me think. Every time I went back to him for follow up check ups even if it was for 10 mins, I would come back with new energy, positivity and with a hope to continue working hard. He is extremely dedicated and I wish the world would have more doctors like him. I met him again just a couple of day’s back, sceptical if the changing times would have changed him. I was wrong. Dr.Sarkar is one in a million he belongs to that level where you find only compassion and commitment to the task entrusted to you by the Almighty. I pray for his well being .May God grant him many more years to his unconditional and selfless service to mankind.
